Hey all,
Looking for an android phone i could experiment with as i've wanted to try one see how well it works. an unlocked one would be good with a slideer keyboard if possible. any suggestions would be great.
Hi,
in my opinion, get the t-mobile G2, or also known as the HTC Desire z.
I've heard that t-mobile gives you stock android without the htc nonsense which gets in the way of accessibility. But I cannot be too sure since I live in a country where t-mobile doesn't exist and thus I've had to deal with getting rid of the htc Sense, or in my terms htc nonsense.
Really, you'll appreciate android in all its glorry, when you root the phone, assuming you'll get a g2/desireZ
there's so many different roms or variants of the android OS you can use on the phone, Its really wonderful to see what works for your situation, and what doesn't.
I was frustrated with it at first, but after rooting it, I've taken out the default htc rom, flashed a totally different one made by some people and I can really say I'm happy with my phone.
But I guess since you said you're wanting to experiment, perhaps you'll be fine with the stock android which I hear comes with the g2.
Regards,
i'll have to look in to that one, hopefully it's in my price range and already unlocked
Its an older one or T-mobile's first 4G device, I wish I was able to get that one but it was gone when I went fore my upgrade. Rat if you want I can search e-bay and tell you what I have found.
i've found a couple of the desire z's, amazon and ebay both have them from what i can see, amazon more so.
I for got to add here that T-mobile has a my touch 4G slider. It has a duel core processor 1.5 gigahurts. For OCR the camra does not have any shutter time, I find it a nice phone. Oh, the keyboard is a nice one!.
I have the totable phone that has a on screen key board if you like phones that have key board on a screen it would be good for you?
Any good droid phones on Vorizon? I wouldn't mind a model or two back from the latest model, but I'd like a Qwerty keyboard. Any Suggestions?
Ya, the droid 3, its a very nice phone, you could go and see if they have some of there 4G phones that have a slider keyboard as well. I am with t-mobile but I have used a droid 3 when training someone on android. One thing to look for, the droid 3 has soft buttons meaning, the home, back, menu and search buttons are on the touch screen and are not physical buttons like my mytouch 4G and the mytouch 4G slider. You could just mark the buttons if it comes down to it.
For unlocked phones: I just got the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro, and it's an awesome phone. It doesn't have a dual-core processor, but it's running Android 2.3 and will be upgraded to ICS eventually. The Qwerty on it is amazing, one of the best I've seen. The buttons are raised enough so that they're easy to type on.
For Verizon phones: There's the Droid 3, which I've looked at. I'm pretty sure it's dual-core, but it doesn't run on 4G. The Samsung Stratosphere has a Qwerty and does run 4G.
Hi.
I also have got the sony erixon xperia pro and i am very happy with it. The keyboard is very nice and i like the fact that there are fisical buttons for back, home and menu.
I recently upgraded the phone to ice cream sandwich but there are some things that i didn't like and i am looking for ways to downgrade again to gingerbread.
With ice cream sandwich the experience with the touch screen has improoved but some things that we could access with the keyboard are no longer possible. The most anoying is the fact that we cannot use the call log with the keyboard. It can be used with explore by touch but i prefer the way it was with gingerbread.
The only thing that i don't like about this phone is its speaker. Listening to music is not very pleasant. My previous phone was a nokia n95 with stereo speakers so now with a phone that has a mono speaker it's not as exciting.
I've heard that for the Android fans, the Galaxy S 3 is a really nice phone. That one's got a quad core processor and I think it works on 4G LTE.
It is and does, but it doesn't have a keyboard, and runs the new Icecream.
It is a nice phone, I have it but its not a quad core in the US. They dumb down it to a dule core, still it speedy, can do more then I will ever need it to do and runs net flix, does some OCR quite fast. Lastly its a full touch screen with a 4.8 inch screen. I love this phone a lot, IceCream sandwige rots on it, I now can see netflix, CNN and so much more with explore by touch. Heck Haytell is even more accessible. Those who want to add me to haytell here it is "danny.mathis@gmail.com", fill free to add me if you have any galaxy sIII questions. Oh, s-voice is pretty good if you ask me.
I for got to add its got 2 gigs of ram as well which helps it quite a lot. Its soon to get Jelly bean, I am excited to see that run on my phone.
I recommend either the droid 3 or droid 4.
I have a Pantech Maraudor from verizon, and its one of the best phones I ever used. It was just released August third in my region and is offered free with a two year conntract. It is a dual core processor and it comes running Icecream Sandwich, a qwerty keyboard, front and back cameras, and not to mention its 4G speed. The only down side is short battery life, but maybe that requires more battery saving research on my part. With icecrea msandwich online browsing is available but sum websites of course are not accessible but most apps are. I haven't had much experience with touch to explorer yet but I think it would make a big difference to the screen reading experience. All in all I think this is one of the best phones to be released from verizon to say the least
explore by touch does make a diffrence, with out it, I would not be able to use my samsung galaxy sIII
I have really thought of hunting down a galaxy S3 to mess with as a secondary device, finding one i can afford and is unlocked now is the tricky part
Galaxy Nexus also another good droy phone. i think its only come in 1gb ram, but it comes in 16gb and 32gb internal storage option.
Explore by touch is definitely a must i think.
buttercup I agree with your post after using 2.21 and 2.34, that 4.0's explore by touch is a must, it really has change the land scape of accessibility for android. Using the latest talkback which was updated and posted to day to the eyes-free speach app's project sight helps as well.
I really like having the galaxy s3 as my main device :), its responsive, I do not see lag on the device's part, after updating talkback to day, hardly any lag from talkback. Hopefully when it comes out of beta this will be squashed.
Samsung makes really nice hardware so I would tend to recommend the Galaxy also. At one point, HTC was creating really rockin devices but it seems in recent years Samsung has beat them out.
